A simple, savoury way to bring medicinal mushrooms into your daily routine

Ingredients:

  • 4–5 cups water or quality stock

  • 1–2 tsp medicinal mushroom powder (blend or single, depending on your needs)

  • 1 tbsp tamari or miso paste

  • 1 clove garlic, minced (substitute for chives, if garlic is not tolerated)

  • 1 tsp fresh grated ginger

  • 1 tsp sesame oil

  • Optional: sliced shiitake mushrooms, greens, or shredded chicken

Method:

Gently heat the stock or water in a saucepan. Add garlic and ginger and allow to simmer for a few minutes.

Stir in your mushroom powder, tamari or miso, and sesame oil. Keep the heat low once the miso is added (avoid boiling) to preserve its benefits.

Add any extras you like and serve warm.

Choosing Your Mushroom Powder

You can keep this very simple, or tailor it depending on what your body needs.

  • A blend is a great place to start if you want broad, general support

  • A single mushroom can be chosen more specifically (e.g. Reishi for stress, Cordyceps for energy, Lion’s Mane for focus)

If you are looking for quality options, a few I often recommend include:

  • Touchwood Mushrooms – practitioner-quality, fruiting body extracts

  • Kissed Earth – convenient multi-mushroom blends

  • Pat's Apothecary – simple, single mushroom powders

What to Look for in a Good Mushroom Powder

Not all mushroom products are created equally, and this does make a difference.

When choosing a product, look for:

  • Fruiting body rather than mycelium on grain

  • Organic or clean sourcing

  • Extracts (or dual-extracted) for better absorption

  • Minimal fillers or additives

This helps ensure you are actually getting the active compounds that make these mushrooms so beneficial.

How to Use

  • Sip as a warming drink

  • Have as a light, nourishing meal

  • Use consistently through the cooler months for best effect
