Naturopathy

What is Naturopathy?
Naturopathy is a holistic health care approach, that focuses on treating the individual and looking at the individual as a whole to help treat and prevent illness and disease. No treatment will be the same for each individual, as we all have unique circumstances that contribute to our health and symptoms. Naturopaths don’t treat diseases, or symptoms, they treat people.

A naturopath examines a person's diet, lifestyle, and all of their symptoms as whole, to formulate an understanding of the root causes contributing to an individual's health issues. It focuses on disease prevention and educating of the individual. Naturopathy uses the power of nature to heal, incorporating both traditional and evidence-based practices for treatment.

The Consultation Process

The initial consultation involves a comprehensive assessment, including a detailed review of body systems, medical history, family health background, and lifestyle factors such as nutrition and daily habits. Muscle testing (naturopathic diagnostic kinesiology) may also be utilised to help inform the therapeutic approach (see more about this technique below).

Where appropriate, functional pathology testing may be recommended to support a more tailored and effective treatment plan. Follow-up consultations are shorter in duration but allow sufficient time for an in-depth evaluation of progress. Treatment strategies may be adjusted or expanded based on individual responses, with the goal of supporting optimal health outcomes.

Naturopathic Diagnostic Kinesiology (NDK)

Muscle testing (biofeedback) is a technique used to identify underlying causes of imbalance within the body. This method can reveal root factors contributing to symptoms and assist in the development of an individualised treatment plan.

By identifying potential trigger foods, beverages, allergens, and other physical stressors, valuable insights can be gained into elements that may be aggravating a condition. Additionally, muscle testing may detect emotional or mental stressors associated with imbalances. These can be addressed through supportive therapies such as flower essences and Reiki.

Once contributing factors have been identified, muscle testing helps to guide the selection of appropriate interventions—such as dietary modifications, herbal medicine, homeopathy, nutritional supplementation, or energetic remedies—aimed at restoring balance and supporting the body’s natural healing processes.

This technique is incorporated into both initial and follow-up naturopathic consultations, providing additional insight alongside detailed case history and symptom review.

It is important to note that naturopathic diagnostic kinesiology (NDK) is not intended to replace clinical reasoning or evidence-based practice. Rather, it serves as a complementary tool to enhance therapeutic outcomes and contribute to the creation of a comprehensive, holistic treatment strategy tailored to individual needs.

Treatments

Treatments will always include diet and lifestyle recommendations, as these are the fundamentals for health and wellness. These are tailored to individual's needs and lifestyle, with the focus on creating achievable changes and goals.

Herbal medicine, nutritional supplementation, flower essences and homeopathy may also be recommended, in addition to diet and lifestyle advice. Energy work may also be incorporated, if deemed appropriate.
